This week's fashion round-up at Cannes Film Festival 2009.

Model Natasha Poly in Roberto Cavalli was hands down the best dressed. It takes alot of attitude and the right look to pull off such a ruffled spectacle such as this but she looks absolutely stunning. It's so easy for ruffles to look trashy or juvenile.

A few months ago Miley Cyrus destroyed her red carpet appearance at the Oscars in a ridiculous Disney Princess gown. Now Lily Cole does the same - in Chanel couture nonetheless!

And looking equally as ravishing as each other is Diane Kruger and Penelope Cruz in Marchesa 2010 Resort Collection. Diane Kruger is also wearing fine jewellery 'Fil de Comete' earrings in white gold and a 'Fontaine' ring in white gold and diamonds, with a Ceamelia Sculpte bracelet in white gold with onyx and diamonds by Chanel.

Angelina Jolie went with classic Versace from last season. Nothing surprising or at all different from her choice but lots of talk surrounding her relationship with Brad Pitt, especially at this event.

This dress is far too young for Sharon Stone but you have to applaud her guts for wearing this high-low dress by Balmain F/W. And those legs!

Don't talk yourself into an outfit that isn't flattering to your frame. There are only two kinds of clothes in this world. Clothes that flatter you and clothes that don't and avoid the latter regardless of how popular and trendy they are.
It is one thing to go shopping with your girlfriends because that can be very social and enjoyable but keep in mind don't shop with a competitive friend because she will cajole you into buying more and possibly unflattering items weather or not you need it.
If you are shopping for a cocktail (event) dress remember to bring your shoes. That way if you need to have in-store alterations you will be all set
If you need to power shop remember to bring a list. This can help focus your attention and keep you on task.
Nothing good will come from buying uncomfortable shoes regardless of how fabulous they are.
Don't buy something you don't need because it is a fantastic sale price. I know we have all done this but it is a waste of money and closet space.
Don't buy on impulse. Ask yourself the following questions when deciding if to buy. Do I need this? Does it fit with my lifestyle or wardrobe? Where am I going to wear this? If you are still undecided then put it on hold and if you are still thinking about it at the end of the day -buy it.

Call them tights, call them leggings, call them whatever you want, they’re here and they’re hot! They’ve been around since last summer, and they’re an 80s fashion trend that has picked up in our era. Weather you hate or love them though, that is another question.

There are some exceptions when it comes to wearing leggings or tights: they’re very tight, therefore, if you’re a little heavier, they will not look good on you, they will only accentuate your weight. Another thing: leggings and tights look good when paired with lots of accessories, and they shouldn’t be worn just by themselves.

Wear tights/leggings with shorts over them, and a hot pair of peep toe pumps. You can also wear them with short skirts and a pair of boots. Add some hot accessories to your outfit like bangles, head bands, etc.

1 Hang it casually on the peg. Then let it fall on the floor. Retrieve. Examine.

2 Put it on. Take it off. Put it on. Marks out of ten for ease and state of garment at end.

3 With trousers, skirts or dresses, sit down, stand up, sit down. Is it creased and disorderly? Are you? Is your underwear on show to the world when you’re seated?

4 If white, look carefully at the care label.

5 If fluffy, feather or furry, try it on with something dark. If it leaves traces, put it back.

6 This isn’t vandalism, but if you’re worried about creasing, scrumple a tiny corner in your hand and see what happens. Julia Dee recommends tugging at the seams gently to see whether they bag. That’s not vandalism either. It’s canny shopping.
